When the Illini coaching staff was game-planning for Wednesday’s Big Ten Conference opener against Michigan, coach John Groce made a prediction.
Michigan, he said, will find weaknesses and pick on them. Groce even warned the players he thought would be singled out.
Sure enough, the Wolverines recognized an Illini team that is undersized and without its best shot blocker now that Mike Thorne Jr. is out with a knee injury. And Michigan picked away on the inside.
