First announced by Thayer Evans of Sports Illustrated, Jacksonville Jaguars assistant offensive line coach Luke Butkus will be the new offensive line coach for the Illini.
Butkus is familiar with Illinois because he started there for three seasons in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Butkus then moved on to a professional playing career that ended in NFL Europe.
When his professional days were finished Butkus moved on to the coaching scene.
Butkus’ first role was with the Oregon Ducks as a graduate assistant. He then moved on to the NFL ranks where he was an offensive assistant and assistant offensive line coach with the Chicago Bears under Lovie Smith.
