It was announced by Adam Rittenberg of ESPN that the Illini have decided to hire Louisville’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee for the same position on Lovie Smith’s staff.
McGee has a long coaching career that started off at Langston University in 1996. He spent time with Langston and then made a few other stops before getting a big break as the Arkansas offensive coordinator in 2010.
While at Arkansas, McGee formed that team into an offensive powerhouse. He helped develop quarterback Ryan Mallet into an NFL Draft pick.
McGee spent one successful year at Arkansas before he took the job at UAB as their head coach.
