Justin Frashier, the head coach at Union Academy, announced on Twitter that Phifer Griffin had received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. Griffin, who I don’t believe has a Twitter account, is a big player the Illini could use in multiple roles on the football field.
Griffin is a 6-foot-8, 290-pound offensive tackle from Union Academy in Monroe, North Carolina. He isn’t rated or ranked in the class of 2020 by any recruiting site out there, but this kid seems to have the size and speed that is needed on the offensive line.
Lovie Smith and the Illinois football coaching staff continuously look for players who aren’t necessarily polished just yet but have the physical makeup to potentially do some real damage with the proper coaching staff behind them.
