URBANA — Jared Hiltzik and Aron Hiltzik set up a brother vs. brother matchup in the Car-X Futures of Champaign tennis tournament after both won a first-round singles match Tuesday at Atkins Tennis Center.
Jared Hiltzik, a recent Illinois graduate, defeated sixth-seeded Roberto Quiroz 5-7, 6-0, 6-3. Aron Hiltzik, an Illini rising junior, upended Julian Bradley 7-5, 6-4.
The two will square off Wednesday in the second round. Illinois rising junior Aleks Vukic will take on Takany Garanganga today as well.
In first-round doubles play, Illinois connections saw mostly success Tuesday.
Former Illini Tim Kopinski and partner Alex Lawson, ex-Illini Dennis Nevolo and partner Chad Rhoden, Jared Hiltzik and partner Dominik Koepfer, and Aron Hiltzik and Illini incoming freshman Noe Khlif all advanced in the draw.
