WINDERMERE, Fla. — Led by sophomore Nick Hardy, the top-ranked Illinois men’s golf team claimed its second consecutive tournament championship, winning the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at Isleworth.
The Illini finished with a three-round total of 1-over-par 865, 4 strokes ahead of No. 10 Arizona State and 13 better than No. 15 California.
“This is one of the bigger, more prestigious college events in the country, played on a very difficult and tricky golf course,” Illinois coach Mike Small said. “The wind was really strong all three days, and I thought our guys really persevered through that adversity.
