Illini Legends, Lists & Lore: Cyril Pinder

Fifty two years ago today, Cyril Pinder ran 80 yards for a touchdown and led the University of Illinois football team past Duke 28-14 at Memorial Stadium. Altogether, he rushed for two touchdowns and a total of 113 yards as the Illini evened their record at 3-3.

Born in Fort Lauderdale in 1946, Pinder came to Champaign-Urbana from Attucks High School in Hollywood, Fla. His teammates nicknamed the 6-2, 201-pound Pinder "Cally" because of his middle name, Calvin.

His game against Duke turned out to be the highlight of his 1965 season, a year in which he sat out three of UI's last four games.
