Born on this date 97 years ago today — Dec. 6, 1918 — was Frank “Bill” Richart. He was the University of Illinois’ Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor winner in 1940.
Richart, an athlete at Urbana High School, helped lead the Illini golf team to the league title in 1940. He also lettered for Illinois in 1939 and 1946. Richart served active duty at the Naval Aircraft Factory in Philadelphia for 31/2 years during World War II, then returned to school at Illinois.
Richart, whose father was a professor at the University of Illinois, earned B.
