CHAMPAIGN — Nearly two weeks after starting point guard Tracy Abrams was lost for the season with a torn Achilles tendon, Illinois got some good news regarding that position as La Salle fifth-year transfer Khalid Lewis gave John Groce and staff a commitment on Saturday, days after his official visit to campus.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Lewis is eligible for the 2015-16 season after spending the last three seasons with the Explorers in the Atlantic-10 Conference. Lewis picked the Illini over Iona, TCU and Baylor.
Before Lewis’ commitment, the lone true point guard on the Illinois roster was junior Jaylon Tate.
