CHAMPAIGN — Offensive line depth has been an issue for Illinois throughout most of the Lovie Smith era. The Illini took a step toward addressing that — at least for future rosters — with a Sunday commitment from Class of 2020 guard Marcus Harper II, who announced his decision on Twitter.

Harper, a Simeon product, is the first commit for Illinois in the 2020 class. The Illini were the last Big Ten team to get a 2020 commitment, and they jumped Maryland for 13th in the conference class rankings per 247Sports.
