CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois suffered its third straight Big Ten loss last Saturday at Maryland, trounced 63-33 by a Terrapins team that had had an up-and-down 2018 season.
“It didn’t go well on Saturday,” said junior Reggie Corbin. “That’s not coach Rod Smith or coach Love Smith, that’s on the players. We have to be accountable for our actions...”
The defense has given up an average of almost 52 points a game and 569 yards to opposing offenses in the last five contests. In that time, Illinois is 1-4; the program has parted ways with former players Bennett Williams and Louis Dorsey; Hardy Nickerson resigned as defensive coordinator; and Lere Oladipo has been suspended indefinitely after being charged with domestic battery.
