CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois defense didn't bend on Saturday against Purdue.
It just broke
The Boilermakers strung together productive drive after productive drive. Racked up 611 yards of total offense as the third team to gouge the Illini for 500-plus this season. And scored 46 unanswered points in a 46-7 victory that sent a Memorial Stadium Homecoming crowd of 41,966 streaming toward the exits in the third quarter.
"What do you say on a loss like that?" Illinois coach Lovie Smith asked rhetorically. "They dominated us (Saturday), but we'll have our day. We should hurt — badly — after this loss, but we'll bounce back next week.
