KOHLER, Wis. — The northern venue worked well for the schools from the North in the first day of the NCAA men’s golf regionals.
Four of the top six schools at the Blackwolf Run Meadow Valleys course are from the North, including fifth-place Illinois.
“Any day in golf, anybody can beat anybody,” Illinois coach Mike Small said. “This is why this is a three-day event. If you equate this to a basketball game, we’re only two-thirds of the way through the first half.
“It’s a long tournament, and golf is such a hard game to master and replicate on a daily basis.
