Henson back in Champaign for more treatment

Former Illini basketball coach Lou Henson said his newly-discovered bone marrow disorder is pre-lukemia, and he said the condition has made him unsure if he'll make public appearances again.

Henson made the comments after returning to Champaign on Wednesday from Texas, where he spent time in the hospital. Henson said he'll be in Champaign for several months seeing doctors at Carle. He said he'll take a week of chemothreapy treatments, then take three weeks off, then continue with the treatments indefinitely.

The 83 year-old Henson is the winningest coach in Illini basketball history. He's previously battled non-Hodgkins lymphoma and encephalitis.
