CHAMPAIGN — Now that Dan Hartleb’s contract has been extended through the 2020 season, the Illinois baseball coach can move on with other pressing matters this summer.
Potential renovations to Illinois Field are still on Hartleb’s long-term to-do list, but rounding out his coaching staff takes precedence at the moment — a task he slowed down while his future at Illinois was being determined.
“The last thing you want to do is move someone — move a family possibly — and then all of a sudden your situation changes,” Hartleb said Tuesday morning — six days after agreeing to a five-year contract extension worth $290,000 per year, with a $20,000 retention bonus per year payable at the end of the contract.
