CHAMPAIGN — Leron Black’s arrest late Thursday for allegedly pulling a knife on a bouncer at the Canopy Club isn’t the first arrest Illinois coach John Groce has had to deal with in the past two years.
The suspension Groce served Black on Friday, before Black was charged with aggravated assault, a Class 4 felony, wasn’t a first either for Groce, now in his fourth year at Illinois.
Former Illini Darius Paul was arrested twice — once in April 2014 and again in August 2015 — and Rayvonte Rice and Aaron Cosby were suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules in January 2015.
