Reached by telephone in Paris on Sunday, Illinois basketball coach John Groce declined to go into detail about the series of events that led to forward Darius Paul being sent home. But the Illini coach acknowledged that Paul was arrested and released by authorities in Deavuille, France.
“That’s really all I have for you at this time on that one,” Groce told The News-Gazette on Sunday.
A day earlier, Groce released a statement saying Paul was suspended indefinitely from the team for a violation of them rules.
“Darius has been suspended indefinitely after violating team rules during our trip,” Groce said in that statement.
