CHAMPAIGN — Illinois football coach Bill Cubit now has two openings to fill on his staff.
A day after special teams coordinator Alex Golesh left for Iowa State, Cubit announced inside linebackers coach Mike Ward won’t return.
The 53-year-old Ward spent four years on the Illinois staff. Prior to that, he worked three seasons with Tim Beckman at Toledo.
Illinois begins the search for replacements immediately, said Cubit, who is on the road recruiting.
Golesh was already in Ames on Tuesday, working for new Iowa State coach Matt Campbell. The two previously worked together at Toledo.
