Friday's UI roundup: Home cooking suits Illini women's tennis

URBANA — A welcomed return to Atkins Tennis Center was just that for the Illinois women's tennis team.

Playing in their home digs for the first time since Feb. 17, the Illini romped to a 6-1 victory over Rutgers on Friday afternoon.

Illinois (7-9, 2-2 Big Ten) made quick work of the Scarlet Knights (8-7, 0-5) in doubles, with the pairings of Emilee Duong and Daniela Pedraza Novak and Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz winning their matches by scores of 6-3 and 6-0, respectively, to clinch the doubles point.

Kawai, Rabinowitz, Duong and Novak all went on to win their singles matches in straight sets, with Jaclyn Switkes collecting the fifth singles win for the Illini, defeating Tess Fisher 6-4, 6-4.
