CHAMPAIGN — John Elder didn’t like it when he heard it in March. And he isn’t any happier about it today.
Against Elder’s wishes, and those of many high school football coaches in the state, Illinois opens Friday night against Kent State.
“I’m speaking on behalf of the football coaches,” said Elder, a longtime Alexis coach and director of the Illinois coaches association. “We feel that Friday nights belong to high schools. The potential to draw 50,000 fans away from the high school football games, high schools can’t afford that.
