Legendary college baseball coach Augie Garrido died Thursday morning at the age of 79 after being hospitalized this past weekend with a serious medical condition.
Garrido, who coached at Illinois from 1988-90 and went 111-57 in three seasons, won five national championships in his 48-year career that ended following the 2016 season. His time at Illinois split his two stints at Cal State Fullerton, where he won three College World Series titles.
Texas was Garrido's final stop. He coached the Longhorns for 20 seasons and won two more College World Series titles. Garrido finished his illustrious career with a 1975–951–9 overall record.
