Kevin Anderson bid for a Grand Slam came to an end Wednesday night.
The former Illinois Fighting Illini standout fell to No. 3 seed Stan Wawrinka, of Switzerland, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open in New York City.
Wawrinka, who has yet to drop a set during the tournament, defeated the South African in an hour and 47 minutes. Anderson won their previous four meetings dating back to March 2014 but with the victory, Wawrinka has leveled their head-to-head series at 4 wins apiece.
