CHAMPAIGN — Illinois football received its fourth commitment in its 2016 class when Chicago Phillips linebacker Amani Jones orally committed to the Illini after Thursday night’s practice at Memorial Stadium.
“I am happy to say that I have committed to U of I!!!!,” Jones tweeted Thursday night.
Jones is the third in-state recruit to pledge to Tim Beckman’s program, joining Rockford Auburn defensive back Juwuane Parchman and O’Fallon running back Kentrail Moran. Eli Peters, a quarterback from Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood, is also in the fold for the Illini.
Jones, a 6-foot, 215-pound three-star recruit, held offers from Buffalo, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Indiana, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo.
