Flaws ties Illini scoring record in victory

CHAMPAIGN — Jannelle Flaws’ spot atop Illinois’ all-time goals-scored list is secured. The sixth-year forward scored twice in Illinois’ 5-2 victory against Texas Christian on Friday night, tying Tara Hurless’ record of 47 career goals set in the 2004 season.

Flaws, who now has the rest of the season to secure the top spot for herself, scored the go-ahead goal on assists from Aliina Weykamp and Kara Marbury just shy of the 53-minute mark, snapping a 2-2 halftime tie. Marbury followed with her first goal of the season two minutes later, and Flaws capped a furious run by the Illini with her record-tying fourth goal of the season three minutes after Marbury found the back of the net.
