CHAMPAIGN — Forty-nine career goals later, Jannelle Flaws still remembers No. 1.
It came during her redshirt freshman season — eight matches into a career initially derailed by a torn ACL during her senior season at Glenbrook South High School that robbed her of her true freshman season in 2010.
Flaws scored her first career Illinois goal in the 84th minute against Pepperdine on Sept. 9, 2011, in Baton Rouge, La., finishing a pass into the box by Megan Pawloski. She remembers the finish clearly.
“Right-footed to the bottom right corner,” Flaws said.
Flaws ultimately scored just two more goals that season and calls that year “frustrating.
