CHAMPAIGN — Jannelle Flaws’ ascension to the top spot among the most-prolific goal scorers in Illinois history is more when rather than if.
Two missed seasons recovering from torn ACLs put some doubt into Flaws’ Illini career, but she more than made up for the missed time with 40 goals in the past two seasons — the most by any NCAA Division I player in that time frame.
She didn’t waste any time Friday night in Illinois’ season opener against Oakland in trying to move up that list of the Illini’s best scorers. Flaws scored twice in the first half, sending Illinois well on its way to a 4-1 victory and vaulting her into third place on the career goals-scored list.
