CHAMPAIGN — University of Illinois Chancellor Robert Jones says he has no plans to launch a search for a new provost anytime soon, preferring to work with interim Provost Edward Feser on the budget and other critical issues.
“He’s done some amazing work for this institution as a so-called interim,” Jones said Monday.
“I can’t control what the provost decides to do,” Jones said, “but right now we’re just going to stay the course.”
In his first official day on the job, Jones also said he is “not opposed” to having a committee look for a campus mascot — an idea endorsed by his predecessor earlier this year — but wants to learn more about the issue first by talking to students, staff and alumni.
