CHAMPAIGN — An effective run game against Purdue never materialized for Illinois against Ohio State.
It didn’t help matters for the Illini with Ke’Shawn Vaughn out of action in the second half Saturday.
The reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week missed the third and fourth quarters after suffering a concussion during the second quarter, the latest Illinois running back to get hit with an injury. Vaughn wasn’t able to replicate his performance at Purdue, carrying the ball six times for negative-4 yards.
“When the trainer tells you he’s out, he’s out,” Illinois interim coach Bill Cubit said.
