Ex-Illini Anderson named EIU coach

CHARLESTON — Jason Anderson grew up in Danville, played his college baseball at Illinois and returned to central Illinois to start his coaching career once his days playing professional baseball were finished.

It’s the area he knows best.

It’s home.

And after a year each as an assistant at Danville Area Community College and Illinois and the past three at Eastern Illinois as pitching coach, Anderson was officially named the 13th head coach at EIU on Wednesday.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity for myself and my family,” said Anderson, who was the 2000 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year at Illinois before being drafted that season by the New York Yankees and spending 11 years playing professionally.
