CHAMPAIGN — Illinois football players were notified this morning of a team meeting set for 2 p.m.
Darius Mosely wondered if it might be “Unofficial” related, and that someone on the team might have gotten in trouble.
Mikey Dudek thought it might be the team’s first opportunity to meet with new athletic director Josh Whitman. He was right. Just not for the right reason.
The real reason — that Whitman had fired coach Bill Cubit — came as a total surprise.
“This is the third time I’ve gotten this call,” said Illinois senior offensive lineman Joe Spencer, who was recruited by Ron Zook and played for Tim Beckman and Cubit.
