CHAMPAIGN — The frustrations were evident for Alex Wittinger last season.
With the then-junior forward as Illinois women's basketball's best — and sometimes only — reliable scoring option, opponents packed the post against her.
"People were always saying (last year), 'We'll get the ball to Alex.' Everybody in the world knows that, and so when the ball went inside, there were three people on her," Illini coach Nancy Fahey said. "If you watched Alex's face last year, it was just like pleading for the ball."
While Wittinger is Illinois' scoring (16.5 points) and rebounding (10.0) leader for the second consecutive season, Fahey has been able to surround the 6-foot-1 Delano, Minn.
