SAVOY — David Deschler wouldn’t list himself among the favorites at this weekend’s 63rd UI Open.
Not even as the defending champion.
Deschler beat longtime friend and five-time UI Open champ Tim Hoss Jr. in a one-hole playoff last June. It was his second UI Open championship to go with a 2012 victory, but Deschler still isn’t sold on his ability to defend his title.
“It is added pressure,” the Douglas County assistant state’s attorney said. “I don’t usually deal with that too well, so I’m not really anticipating a defense of my title. There are a lot of probably better players playing that I’m sure will beat me.
