CHAMPAIGN — Former Illinois basketball great Dee Brown has been hired by the athletic department as a special assistant to athletic director Mike Thomas for the summer of 2015, the school announced on Tuesday.
Brown, who starred for the Illini from 2002-2006 and helped lead the program to a 37-2 record and a spot in the NCAA title game in 2005, will work closely with Thomas during the summer before continuing his professional basketball career.
Brown, a second-round draft pick in 2006, spent parts of three seasons in the NBA with the Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns.
