Cvijanovic's goal: To advocate for others

CHICAGO — In a downtown law firm's conference room, Simon Cvijanovic spoke of the two shoulder operations and the left-knee surgery he's undergone in recent years.

"(My doctor) checked out the right (knee) and said it's going to have to get done," the former Illinois offensive lineman said. "There are medical expenses coming down the road."

Thanks to a $250,000 settlement he received from the university, announced this week, Cvijanovic says he'll better be able to handle those medical expenses.

The long road to Thursday's news conference at the Tomasik Kotin Kasserman law firm began when Cvijanovic rifled off a series of tweets in May 2015, claiming then-Illini coach Tim Beckman and his staff mistreated injuries Cvijanovic suffered throughout the course of his career.
