CHAMPAIGN — Wes Lunt’s initial foray into football involved him catching the ball rather than throwing it.
“I was a possession guy,” the Illinois quarterback said with a grin.
That was back in eighth grade, playing youth football in Rochester, where Lunt was a wide receiver.
When he started high school, Rochester coach Derek Leonard and his staff shifted Lunt to quarterback, based mainly on what his older brother, Wil, did quarterbacking the Rockets’ offense.
“I didn’t start playing quarterback until freshman year of high school,” Lunt said. “I got out there and was given a chance.
