CHAMPAIGN — Bill Cubit won’t stay the night at a recruit’s house.
Nor will he climb a tree outside a prospective player’s dwelling.
“I don’t think 99.9 percent of people would do that, either,” the Illinois football coach said with a grin Monday night as a guest on “The News-Gazette SportsPage” radio show at the Esquire in downtown Champaign.
Cubit made a slightly-veiled reference to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s offseason recruiting antics.
Antics that, however one views them, netted the Wolverines a consensus top-five 2016 class earlier this month.
With his current players going through winter workouts, the start of spring practices less than three weeks away on March 11 and three former Illini prepping for the NFL combine this week, Cubit is a busy man.
