CHAMPAIGN — The conundrum is pretty evident right now for the Illinois football team.
Experienced depth is lacking on offense at key skill positions, and Illinois interim coach Bill Cubit indicated after Saturday’s 24-13 loss to Wisconsin the trust factor Illinois feels about its backups isn’t exactly overflowing.
“Right now we’ve got one running back and got no tight ends,” Cubit said. “You’ve got to play the game close to the vest.”
OK, Cubit is slightly exaggerating. If Illinois would want to, it could turn to Henry Enyenihi, Kendrick Foster or even walk-on Cameron Tucker at the running back spot to spell two-game starter Ke’Shawn Vaughn.
