Bill Cubit has worked against Jerry Kill for years. So, of course, he is sad to see his friend retire at Minnesota.
“He was a great coach, but he was a better guy,” Cubit said after Wednesday’s practice. “He is a guy who is what college coaching should be, instead of all this rhetoric and all this other stuff out there. He just went about his business, built himself up, hard-nosed, honest. Just a good, good person.”
Kill excelled at his three most recent coaching stops. succeeding at Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois and Minnesota.
“By Year 3, they were going to be pretty good at every spot they went,” Cubit said.
