Conine hits school with lawsuit

URBANA — A former University of Illinois soccer player filed a lawsuit Monday against the university’s athletic department, athletic director Mike Thomas, coach Janet Rayfield and assistant athletic trainer Brittany Scott over the handling of a concussion she received.

The suit seeks damages of at least $50,000.

Casey Conine of Leslie, Mich., alleged in the suit that the soccer team ignored university protocol when she received a concussion in a match against Northwestern on Oct. 5, 2014.

UI sports information director Kent Brown declined comment on the lawsuit.

In the play, Conine collided with the Wildcats goalkeeper on a corner kick.
