CHAMPAIGN — When Austin Colbert was absent from the Illinois basketball banquet on Monday, the writing was on the wall that it was likely Colbert had played his last game in an Illini uniform.
The program made the news official on Wednesday, announcing that Colbert and the program were parting ways.
“After meeting with Austin, he and I agree that it is in his best interest to pursue a fresh start and continue his education and basketbal career at another institution,” Illinois coach John Groce said in a statement. “We are appreciative of the effort Austin gave during his time at Illinois and we will fully support him and his family throughout the transfer process.
