All new actions for coaching staffs and athletic departments to utilize as of midnight Monday. That’s when the new NCAA bylaw officially went into effect, allowing head coaches, assistants, recruiting coordinators or, really, any athletic department staff member to retweet a recruit’s tweet, like a photo on Instagram or share a post off Facebook.
Regulations still exist limiting direct communication between coach and recruit — no comments, tagging or emoji use, for example — but the complex world of recruiting has a few new wrinkles moving forward.
“The motto of the day has been that coaches can ‘click but not type,’ ” said Ryan Squire, Illinois’ associate athletic director and chief integrity officer who is transitioning to his new job after six-plus years as Illinois’ director for compliance.
