Asmussen: Penn State AD Sandy Barbour at home

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Sandy Barbour didn’t need to move.

She had a great job at a great place in Cal. She was an established force in the Pac-12 and could have stayed there until retirement.

But in 2014, Penn State called. Close to where she was born — Annapolis, Md. She couldn’t say no.

“This was coming home,” Barbour said. “But that was kind of an added bonus. But the real gist of the decision about wanting to have an opportunity to lead a program like Penn State that has such an incredible reputation and history for combining academic and athletic success at such a high level, I wanted to be a part of that.
