Abrams granted sixth year of eligibility

CHAMPAIGN — The news Illinois expected to get from the NCAA concerning Tracy Abrams finally came Thursday. The Illini point guard received a sixth year of eligibility after his 2015-16 season was wiped out by a torn left Achilles in July 2015.

That season-ending injury, of course, came 10 months after Abrams tore his right ACL and missed the entirety of the 2014-15 season.

“I am so proud of the perseverance and determination Tracy has displayed through his injuries,” Illinois coach John Groce said in a statement. “We are looking forward to having him back on the court this season, setting the tone for our team with his leadership, toughness and competitive drive.
