The Vandals started 0-6 from the field, allowing WSU to build a 6-0 lead. The Vandals battled back to take a 7-6 lead. The two teams traded leads for the rest of the first quarter before WSU took a 17-13 lead on buzzer beater three-pointer at the end of the frame.
