RIGA, Latvia – Former Vandal Liga Velvere will compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as a member of Team Latvia.
Velvere will run in the 800m, joining seven other Latvians on the athletics team. Her time of 2:01.12 ranks her 44th in the world heading into Tokyo.
The Latvian graduated from Idaho in 2013. During her time as a Vandal, Velvere was an eight-time Western Athletic Conference champion, including three times in the 800m. She holds the record for the 400m and 800m in indoor. She left Moscow with the second fastest outdoor 400 and 400 hurdles times and third fastest 800 time in Vandal history.
