Sports Briefs: A forthcoming danger

The Idaho State Board of Education will vote on the University of Idaho’s proposal to apply more institutional funds to the $1 million athletic deficit, the result would either add three new limited-scholarship sports or force UI to cut three current athletic programs.

This incident comes just one year after UI applied for the same waiver. Should the State Board grant the waiver, UI President Chuck Staben said Idaho would implement three new limited-scholarship sports, including men’s swimming, rifle and women’s triathlon. All three sports are considered relatively low-cost sports and the athletes would not receive athletic scholarships.
