OGDEN, Utah—Idaho sophomore Marianna Petrei was named Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday. It is the third time this season the Big Sky has bestowed Petrei with the honor.
Petrei, a sophomore from Udine, Italy, posted an impressive victory as the 2016 Big Sky MVP improved to 16-0 in her career at No. 1 league singles. Petrei made quick work of Sacramento State's Ana Loaiza Esquivias, a four-time Player of the Week, at the top court. Petrei defeated the fellow 2016 All-Big Sky First Team selection in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, handing Loaiza Esquivias her first league loss of the season and just the second of her career.
