PORTLAND, Ore. – A tough matchup with the local rival didn't go Idaho's way on Saturday, as the Vandals fell to the Cougars of Washington State in three sets to close the North Portland Marriot Invite. Idaho finished the weekend 1-2, after falling to the hosts and sweeping Utah State on Friday.
The Cougars were dominant early, scoring the first six points of the set. But the Vandals were a resilient bunch and battled back to take their first lead at 19-18, and eventually get up 23-21. WSU went on a run from there, scoring six of the next eight points to take the set, 27-25.
