Mike Phelan boosted as options open up at Hull ahead of Liverpool trip

First team coach Stephen Clemence was up for media duties after Hull City's EFL Cup win away to Stoke City on Wednesday night and a broad grin spread across his face when asked how many players had nudged their way into the weekend plans to conquer Liverpool.

"Those headaches are for Mick," said Clemence, gently shifting responsibilities on to caretaker boss Mike Phelan.

"I'm sure he'll have plenty to think about going into the weekend."

Phelan certainly does. After naming the starting XI for each of his five Premier League games in charge this season, change has never felt more irresistible ahead of City's demanding test away to Liverpool.
