Grant McCann was frustrated to exit the Papa John’s Trophy against Lincoln City – but hailed the contribution of midfielder Greg Docherty.
The Scot’s fine solo effort cancelled out Harry Anderson’s early opener and ensured the quarter-final finished level after 90 minutes.
But the Tigers were beaten 4-3 on penalties, with Richie Smallwood, James Scott and Jordan Flores unsuccessful from the spot.
“I’m not pleased to go out of the Trophy,” said McCann. “We wanted to try and go as far as we could and go all the way but it wasn’t to be tonight.
